News

Gaelic signage
As many of our projects in the north of Scotland now require dual language (English and Gaelic) signage solutions, we are working closely with specialist Gaelic translators to establish standardised wordings and design appropriate graphic formats to achieve the best balance between the two languages.

Roy Fleming joins the team
Senior design industry adviser Roy Fleming has joined the Inside Information team. Roy is London-based and will assist with the development of new business opportunities in London and the South East. Roy can be contacted on 0207 628 6237 or roy@ininfo.co.uk

Centre for Health Science
We have recently been appointed to design the brand identity and wayfinding for this unique medicare centre in Inverness. The state-of-the-art building is arranged on two levels around a central couryard and will house teaching, research and treatment facilities.

Environmental graphics for Chevron's HQ
We have been commissioned to design environmental graphics and wayfinding signage for the new Chevron HQ building in Aberdeen. Within the large open-plan office areas we will be assisting navigation by use of fixed and electronic signage, with colourful banners and murals to create visual landmarks and identify colour-coded zones.

Scottish Natural Heritage
For the new SNH headquarters building we have designed a colourful wayfinding and sign system in dual language English/Gaelic. The building itself is built to demanding sustainability standards and has won the highest BREEAM award in the UK.

Wayfinding at HIE’s corporate HQ

We have recently completed a comprehensive wayfinding scheme for Highlands and Islands Enterprise at their headquarters building, Cowan House in Inverness.

The scheme included both exterior and interior signage, reception area graphics, literature display units and library displays. Everything was designed to project the clients well-established corporate identity and all information was dual language, English and Gaelic.

As the client’s organisation expected frequent changes to the structure and naming of departments and project groups it was necessary to design as much flexibility as possible into the display systems to allow for easy and rapid updating of information.

We specified a modular sign system using interchangeable metal profiles and a system of signs for desk naming and workgroup identification which used paper inserts, printed in-house to a standard typographic template.

Reception areas were treated with large scale, colourful, graphic murals to explain the client’s corporate objectives in growing businesses, strengthening communities, developing skills and making global connections.

The scheme has been very well received by the client:

"I would defy anyone to get lost in the building now, where before they might have."
Catriona Eagle, Director of Careers Scotland, Highlands and Islands Enterprise

"We've worked together on projects ranging from advertising campaigns to websites and printed publications, as well as signage. each one has been impressively planned and efficiently project managed to the smallest detail. Inside Information sets and meets strict deadlines and always works to the highest quality standards."
Chris Roberts, Head of Communications, Highlands and Islands Enterprise

Large graphics for Barclays Capital

Barclays Capital commissioned us to design large graphic panels as part of an innovative wayfinding system. The building in question, a work area recovery centre in north London, has an exceptionally large open plan main office space containing nearly one thousand separate work stations, arranged in long rows.

To make the space easier to navigate we have subdivided it into three colour coded zones and implemented a novel system of overhead row and desk numbering, utilising the structures of the air conditioning system.

Within the floor area two very large, free-standing structures have been given a bright and colourful all-over graphic treatment using a digital printing process. Vending areas, breakout areas and spaces for office facilities have been finished in bold colour with large-scale vinyl graphics applied directly to the wall surfaces.

To complete the scheme we have designed a series of three-metre wide, digitally printed canvas murals, coded to the colour zones and depicting photographic assemblages of natural textural elements - clouds, water, rock, plants etc. - ideal for brightening up a space which has no external views or natural daylight.

New partnering service aimed at graphic and interior design practices

We have launched a new partnering service to help graphic and interior design practices deliver high quality wayfinding solutions for their clients.

Many design practices will be expert in the development of brand identity and retail identity programmes for their clients but will not have the specialised skills in-house to handle the development of large-scale wayfinding and sign design schemes.

In these instances we are offering our skills as a ‘bolt-on’ service where we will work closely with the project design team to ensure that the overall design approach is accurately incorporated into signage and information structures, and take the time-consuming burden of detailed scheduling, programming and specification of wayfinding programmes off their designers’ hands, freeing them up for other creative tasks.

Photographic resource adds to graphic capabilities

We have expanded our in-house photographic service with the addition of new top-of-the range digital camera equipment.

The system, which produces high quality 50-megabyte photo files, will allow us to increase our range of stock and specially commissioned images for use on murals, banners, canvases and other large scale environmental graphics.

We are also offering a commercial photographic service for architectural, industrial and landscape subjects, producing unique images for use in brochures, annual reports, exhibitions, displays and web sites.
