With the threat of terrorist strikes ever-present, Barclays Capital has created a back-up facility to allow normal trading to continue in the event of a major alert. A very large open-plan space contains a mirror of the company’s Canary Wharf trading desks. Our wayfinding challenge was to design a system that would allow staff to quickly and accurately find their way to the correct workstation. Our solution was to utilise the overhead air-handling ducting as a location for colour-coded zone, desk and row numbering. On the perimeter walls large-scale colour graphics showed the way to break-out areas, vend equipment and other facilities.
