Foreign & Commonwealth Office

Old Admiralty Building, London

Back to projects list

This historic Victorian building sits at the end of the Mall and famously provided the offices for Winston Churchill when First Lord of the Admiralty. Now occupied by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, it is a complex warren of intersecting corridors and enclosed offices. Our solution to the wayfinding issues was to simplify navigation by introducing a new system of room numbers rather than long, complex departmental names, and colour-coding the different levels. All colours were chosen to meet English Heritage requirements appropriate to the building's age.
